It's hard to believe another week has nearly passed (by the time I post this it has passed). What a week it's been. Instead of doing a bunch of posts I figured I'd just do an update on all that's been going on.
First off, my three stooges fall as reader Paul called it, the morning after was worse than the day of the fall. I woke w/ a swollen, sore neck. Those who know me know I don't do doctors unless I have to. We decided to follow my intuition. Bill took me to the pharmacy for anti-inflamatory pills then to get a foam collar. The collar worked wonders. My neck just needed some extra support. By Thursday afternoon I was feeling "normal" again. I'll continue to use the collar around the house for a few days. I drove without it yesterday without any problems. Bill, Callista & I want to send our thanks to a nurse friend who confirmed I was doing the right things. Bill is eyeing the collar as he wants to use it to enhance his evening televison viewing. His head tends to fall over to one side periodically.
Rain, rain and more rain wreaking havoc all over the country. For some it's a nightmare. Costa Rica could use your prayers. I'm not going to get into the details in other areas as I don't know anything more than what's been on television. We, like many around the country were glued to the television yesterday.

In our neighborhood the earth is moving again as well. An internal road was blocked again. The same area that had a mudslide previously. Backhoes were out early clearing the road. The principal road into & out of South Santiago remains open at the moment but the hillside is threatening to collapse again. The terraces built after the big slide last month are gone. Crumbled. Cuts made in the compacted earth to provide a release for the water are growing and being compromised. It's a matter of time before the hillside collapses again. We're stocking up on dry goods and other essentials.

Since writing the above a couple of days ago the rains have stopped. Thank goodness. We had blog readers come to visit us in San Ramon on Friday. We walked the streets in a constant drizzle. It was a pleasure to show them a little of our town and share things we've learned in our time here. Showing other people around we learn new things as well.
For example, we weren't previously aware BCR is the only bank one can pay the exit tax. It's a coinsidence we always take people there to pay it ahead of time but until a visit to a different bank on Friday we didn't know it was "the" bank to pay it.
Something else we learned was that you need to pay attention to what type of debit card you have. Some machines only take Visa while others only Mastercard. Who knew? Luckily we have a block in town with three different banks so everyone could get their banking done with one stop.
The end of the week brought a break from the rain and the arrival of the wicked winds. The sun broke through Saturday morning. I think I could hear the Halleluja chorus blowing in the wind. Hubby and I ran errands in town and walked the streets sipping our delicious Jamba Juice drinks.
Everyone is happy to see the sun again. The wind... brings more concerns. With the ground as saturated as it is trees are likely to fall. So please, please, please continue to use caution when out on the roads.
Also remember we're nearing the end of the school year so you're likely to see more children out on the streets. Kids are excited and playing pranks on each other this time of year so be aware. A child may dart out into a road at any time trying to avoid being hit by a flying egg. Yes, egging is a big thing here. Just ask my daughter.
Okay... I think that about sums things up for now. It's a beautiful Sunday. Time to get out and enjoy it. Bill is taking Callista to a friends then who knows?
