Halloween isn't a traditional holiday in Costa Rica thus the ridiculous price of pumpkins found at Walmart earlier this week. No trick! No treat either! Yes, you can have a cindirella pumpkin for 13, 970 colones, $25.29 at today's exchange rate.
Since moving here over ten years ago we've seen this holiday grow from something that was celebrated at a few bars in tourist locations to Halloween decorations being sold in our pueblo at local stores. It's sad. Hope we don't end up seeing children begging for candy in our neighborhood!
