This little cutie has been hitting the banana racks lately. He's not one we've seen before. At first glance I thought he as a yellow throated euphonia since we've seen those in the past. A quick glance at the throat tells me different. It's not yellow. Nor is he a navy blue all over. This guy is olive gree with a yellow belly, yellow crown with black throat and mask. His mate is around as well. At least I believe it's his mate. She is less stunning, olive color all over with white belly.
They have a beautiful song which makes me think perhaps they are warblers. Unfortunatly they don't look like any warblers in my Costa Rica bird book.
I've believe I've been mistaking the mate to this guy as a female, red footed honey creeper. Until yesterday I hadn't looked closely at her beak. She's not a honey creeper. I'll try to get pics of her today.
