The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve was where we had our first adventure of 2013. We drove up early one day last week stopping for an ice cream cone and some cheese at the cheese factory on the way. Once at the reserve we had our cheese and cracker snack then headed off to hike the reserve.
At the first split in the path I veered off to hike on my own while Bill and Callista took the harder trail up to "La Ventana" where they hoped to be able to see both the Pacific and Carribean oceans.
I loved hiking alone taking in all the sights and smells of the forest. It's taken me a week to write about it as I was holding the experience for myself, close to my heart. Don't get me wrong, I love sharing adventures with my family but nothing, nothing compares to time alone in a forest. It was such a wonderful, rejuvenating experience for my soul. An awesome way to start off the new year.
Callista had a camera with her too. Here are some of her shots. Unfortunately they were only able to see the Pacific coast. Bill says we'll return in a couple of years to try again.
They encountered a pair of coati's near the end of their trail.
I discovered one at the hummingbird garden.
When we hiked the reserve last year we split up as well and happened to meet up on the Wilford Guindon trail. Remembering this I chose the same trail this year. Bill and Cal decided to take an easier path back this time around. I ended up back at the car only about 10 minutes before they did.
It was once again a wonderful experience. One thing I'll always remember from this particular trip is having the priveledge of meeting Wilford Guindon after I'd just finished hiking the trail named after him.
