People are always saying they're going to do something and don't. We're no different. We agreed to drive to Bajo Rodriguez with a friend months ago to meet his family. For one reason or another one of us always cancelled once we had it scheduled. Last Sunday we finally went and are happy we did!
Bajo Rodriguez is about an hour from San Ramon towards La Fortuna. It's a beautiful drive with ornamental plant farms along the roadside. Depending on the weather you can see one or more waterfalls. On the way there we saw one. On the way back it was raining and we saw at least a dozen of varying sizes.
The day started off at the house of our friends mother. Then we visited a neighbor with too many types of chickens to count. In addition to the chickens he also raised turkeys, ducks and goodness knows what else.
After we'd had our fill at the neighbors we drove to a sisters house in Valle Azul where we got up close and personal with her 10yr old deer. From there we walked into the woods were we discovered the restaurant where we played with the toucan and baby parrots from my post earlier in the week.
On our walk we came across many things that don't grow in our climate, cacao & mamón chino for example and things I'd never seen out of a plastic wrapper like rice. I was fascinated.
We'd mentioned knowing about the nearby hot springs, Termales del Valle. After our walk we took a drive up the road to check them out as well. If you plan to spend any time in the area make sure you have a swimsuit with you. It's hot! Both Bill & I could've used a dip in the refreshing pools.
Tired from our hikes and the heat we headed back to San Ramon mid-afternoon, just in time to catch the afternoon rains on the drive. From melting in the heat to chilled by the rains, it's no wonder the gripe (gree-pay/ flu) caught me.
