Like many teens in the states much of my youth was spent at the local mall, Los Arcos Mall. Saturdays after chores were finished we'd get our allowance and head to the mall to blow it on pokies (M&M's) at The Broadway candy shop or dill pickles out of the barrel at the Sears candy counter. That is before fashion became an issue then those hard earned dollars went towards movies and clothes.
In some ways teens are alike all over the world, generation after generation. When given the opportunity to visit yet another organic herb farm or a mall in the city guess which our daughter chose. Yep, we went malling last week. Wandered around the Multiplaza near Cima hospital for a few hours. It takes a while to see it all. We hadn't been to the Multiplaza in a few years. We'd seen the construction work going on in the past and finally got to see the new section finished. This is not a discount mall. These all seemed like high end stores. I don't know how they'll make enough profit to stay in business. The day we visited there were only a handful of people in the entire mall. Sales people hoovered over us in the few stores we entered.
Our big mall purchase, five mini donuts for 700 colones. The were tiny donuts but big on taste. Callista and I shared the delicious minis. My mouth is watering now just thinking about 'em. Good donuts are hard to find in Costa Rica.
This place looked interesting. Parents sit in the front section, an upscale coffee shop kind of place while the kids go in the back behind a gate and play. Parents can enjoy an adult conversation while the kids tire themselves out in a safe environment, for a price.
The mall had everything one would expect to see in a mall in the states including GNC, Radio Shack and a plethora of jewelery, clothing, toy and book stores. There was even a Crepe shop. For a moment we were back at Scottsdale Fashion Square mall. The Nature store was there but not big toy store I remember. What was it, FAO Shwartz? High end for my taste with snooty shop attendants but that's just my opinion.
If nothing else, walking the three floors of Multiplaza was great exercise.
I loved this window display and just had to snap a shot of it. That's when security came running. Apparently one isn't allow to take photos of window displays at the mall. Obviously, it was time for us to leave. As you can imagine Callista was embarrassed beyond belief. Don't think she'll be asking us to take her to the mall fo awhile. Mission accomplished!!! (just kidding Sweetie)
