We weren't sure we'd make it but the stars aligned and we were able to attend the orchid show in Alajuela last weekend. Callista had gotten a ridiculously high fever Thursday that kept her home from school for two days. The fever finally broke overnight Friday. She stayed down and rested on Saturday. Sunday morning she was well enough Bill and I decided to go. What a surprise it was when she decided to hang with mom and dad.
After the 45 minute drive into Alajuela Cal wasn't feeling as well as she had been earlier. I think she was going stir crazy in the house. Luckily, the orchid exhibit was not as large as the one we'd been to in San Jose and we'd arrived just as they opened so there weren't many people.
I'd brought an extra camera for Callista in an attempt to keep her occupied so I could take my time photographing the orchids but she wasn't feeling up to it. She and Bill wandered on their own and tried to be patient with me. Yes, I would've liked great shots of ALL the orchids but you do what you can at family outings like this. Besides both Cal and I were excited about going out to lunch.
Going out for lunch in the city is always fun. It's something different when your life is such that you prepare three meals a day, every day in the home. Plenty of people do it but it's a far cry from our old lives where we had every fast food and dining establishment you can think of within one to five square miles from our front door. I was a little disappointed going into Alajuela on Sunday because Jalapenos Restaurant isn't opened. I really wanted Callista to get a chance to try it. She's had take-out tacos but hasn't been to the restaurant. I'm not sure who came up with the idea but we did end up with Mexican food. Sort of, we ate at Taco Bell. I need to do a separate post on that experience!
Having enjoyed the orchid show and our lunch in the city we returned home early enough to be comfortable inside before the afternoon rains began. It didn't take long for everyone to crash on the couches. I've got photos but no one likes photos of themselves posted when they aren't feeling well. Especially 13 yr old girls. The times they are a changing!
