Not much sun out at all today around here. It didn't get better all day. Fall like weather lately, windy now at times just breezy and cool. The thermometers have all long been broken. I'll have to try to remember to pick some up next time we're in the city.
We made it into town to take care a of a few errands and gather provisions early in the day. Thus allowing us to spend Cal's first day of vacation around the house. Actually, we're planning to hibernate all weekend. We enjoy our home and being able to spend time here without having to go anywhere is a treat.
As always, our new lives are changing. Sometimes it isn't us changing but things around us causing domino effects in our lives. For example, our neighbor has moved back into the house he previously rented out. They've under gone a couple of months of extensive renovations and moved the family in week or so ago. They long ago cut down the cana india fence that separated our driveway from their property below. The cana acted as a windbreak for us in previous years. He's now decided to put in a chain link type of fence. With most of it completed he's let loose the chickens. Hmmm yep, you just never know what's going to move in next door. There have been chickens around us before, never this many. Never as many roosters.
The fence is a good thing for a couple of reasons. Number one, our dogs. Our dogs run free. They mostly stay up near the house but they do patrol the driveway and keep watch on the neighbors as well. It's their nature. Bear is too old to mess with chickens. He just doesn't have it in him anymore. Maracuyada on the other hand is up for the chase. She's never had the chance to catch one and we don't want her having the opportunity.
The other reason is they have a small boy. Small boys need to be caged. I think he's around two or three. Probably two. I think he's louder than the chickens as I hear him screaming in the backyard at 6:AM.
Yes, all this will take some adjusting to as we head into summer vacation with a daughter who has only recently discovered the joy of sleeping in late in the morning.

WEATHER: 6:43am Saturday, November 29
Cloudy with sunshine peaking out over San Ramon. Looks like we'll have more sun than yesterday but you just never know what the day will bring. As I write the clouds are lifting to the north, Zarcero, Los Angeles way revealing a line of blue sky. Poas, to the east...totally cloud covered. Haze blowing in from the ridge.
