Mother & Child reunion
Maracuyada and her mom, Furia (Fury)
Mara hadn't seen much of her mom since she came to live with us even though her mom lived very close. Furia's owner was keeping one puppy, Angel. Mama was happy only having one to deal with instead of the four she'd been nurturing before three went to other homes.
The other day Angelito had an unfortunate run in with a pickup truck resulting in his short life coming to an abrupt end. An hour or so later we discovered Furia in our yard. In the year she's been living here she's never ventured down here. When we heard what happened to the puppy it became very clear, she was searching for him. She didn't find him but was plesantly distracted by discovering the scents of her other two pups, Mara & Tito. A few minutes later the three were biting and chasing eachother like old times. For a little while, Furia forgot her greif.
That night I could hear her barking and calling for Angelito into the wee hours. The next morning she came down to see Mara on her early morning piddle break. It's been several days now and Furia's visits to our house and that of Tito's owners are becoming regular. While there is no replacement for one lost child the comfort of the others helps in the grieving process.
