    Spiders & Snakes

We've had a recent rash of spiders in the house. Yes, in the house. I think they're all out celebrating the dry season. It'd been awhile since we'd had tarantula types in the house. Guess it's time to fumigate again. Funny how we aren't as freaked out as we used to be when seeing these.

100_1836This one was a super spider! It took more Cruz Verde direct hits than I think a human can survive and still kept going.  He was out of shoe reach so I had no choice. Luckily our family survived the night with all the fumes. Long term effects???

This will always freak me out! Yesterday we found a coral snake slithering through the garden. I'm no expert but Callista (self-proclaimed expert) says "red on yellow kill a fellow". This specimen definitely was red on yellow. Anti-animal killers can breathe a sigh of relief this one got away. Something I'm not thrilled about. Bill decided to play with him instead of kill him. CRAZY! Actually, he wanted to get a good look at him before he whacked it but the snake had other ideas and took off like a bat outta hell.

I've had time to do a little research since writing this post. It was a dangerous snake. My daughter knows her snakes. I'm once again thankful for that trip to snake world a couple of years ago. If you're moving here I highly suggest a trip in your early days so you'll know what can hurt you and what can't.

The following info compliments of The Real Costa Rica.

Serpentario El Mundo de las Serpientes

Located in Grecia, about 45 minutes northwest of San José is the World of Snakes.  From their web site, they are an open-air-exhibition with snakes from all over the world.  They also say that you can, if you wish, "...get in close contact with snakes.".  Hmmm!  Bring the kids!
