    Look who's back

    100_2106_2

The blue crowned mot-mot has once again been making regular appearances at our house after almost a year long absence. This one along with a second have been coming around the past month for my early morning bananas. We saw him a couple of times in November but I was afraid to say anything for fear once I did he leave again for a number of months. He may be known as a stupid bird to some but he'd still one of the most beautiful to me. I'm so happy to see him again.

I don't think this is one of the birds who used to hang out here regularly as it(they) are extremely camera shy. I could get withing two feet of the last one. These guys fly away if they see me sitting on the porch. One almost flew into me yesterday as he rounded the side of the house towards the banana table where I happen to be putting out a second batch. Yes, there have been so many birds lately I've been doing an early feeding at sunrise and a second one a couple of hours later. Don't laugh, December is the peak of bird season here. You'd be trying to attract them too if you lived here, it's an addiction.
